Hmm I definitely don't have a top 5 for this year. I was excited for all of 2 releases which were Room on Fire - the Strokes Elephant - White Stripes (although, I agree with what you said Mike, White Blood Cells was better) Hot Hot Heat and Tegan and Sara might have made my list if I hadn't listened to them to the edge of my insanity.
What about this year though? I'm so excited for a bunch of albums The Libertines!! Cordalene, of course Stiffed The Vines (well, sorta) Umm there's more but I can't think of them right now...

Hmmm, yea about the new issue of neat neat neat...what a loaded question.
It was supposed to come out December 19 because that was our last day of school before Christmas break. However, with all the work the teachers like to load up that week, it didn't even get close to getting finished. Then we figured we'd work on it over break but with holidays and general laziness?? Niente. So What about the rest of January? Ahhh exams! What fun! MORE work. However, exams are finished and Alissa is working double time to put everything together. If all goes really well (HA!) we'll copy it tuesday and have it by Wednesday.
But here's some wonderful things you can expect in this issue: TONS of show reviews. We have friends from all over (well, ok, just the UK) sending us show reviews, plus one or two of our own! An interview with Mike Kiley Best Albums from 2003 How to get a really slutty mohawk The Groupie Board Game! (just for shits and giggles)
And I've just talked to Alissa on the phone. She told me that all she's doing this weekend is working on neat neat neat and we WILL have it done by Wednesday!

yeah, how about a few copies of the new NNN zine? I need a sluttier mowhawk.
top five of the year are: Half the new Death Cab for cutie album. Ween-Quebec.. uh..
I'm realizing right about now that I'm the worst person in the world to ask about the top five of this year, because I never get the recent stuff. The top five of my year this year would probably include the last Shins record (Oh Inverted World) the Capitol Years' Jewelry Store ep, QOTSA's Songs for the Deaf, and Queen's Sheer Heart Attack. None of which are this years model but I don't usually dispose of my music so quickly.
So I'm going to plug my fav local bands of the year, many of which put out some really incredible stuff this very year, and some of whom are recent discoveries with fairly recent discs.
the Jane Anchor put out a great little EP called Just Wait.
South Congress put out a nice little EP that doesn't really have a name.
Laguardia put out a whole damn album that's quite good.
I finally picked up a copy of The Capitol Years' Jewelry Store ep, which is faboo.
I've really liked the scrappy demos I've heard from Persona, and keep meaning to check up on them. (We'll have to play another show together, and you'll all have to come to it.)
Pepper's Ghost have a great EP called Bang and another bunchof demos that might be the Rock and Roll Star maxi single at some point.
Pilot Round the Sun were great to play with this year, and their Hits Like The Gospel ep spent a good deal of time in my car this summer.
go see local phila music, there's something happening here, dammit.

last Shins record (Oh Inverted World)
OH! definitely on mine too. I haven't even bought their new album yet but Oh Inverted World kicked ass. I listened to some of Laguardia on their website and they sound good. I really wanted to see them live but I think I'm going to have to get that album. This coming from the girl who actually *bought* all of 1 album last year though...
